Bentyl is prescribed for the treatment of functional bowel/irritable bowel syndrome (abdominal pain, accompanied by diarrhea and constipation associated with stress). Heat prostration (fever and heat stroke due to decreased sweating) can occur with use of this drug in hot weather. Make sure your doctor is aware of any drug reactions you have experienced. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you. Diarrhea may be an early symptom of a partial intestinal blockage, especially in people who have had bowel removals and an ileostomy or colostomy. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dicyclomine relieves spasms of the muscles in the stomach and intestines by blocking the actions of certain chemicals in the body.
