Accolate (Zafirlukast) SHORT DESCRIPTION
Zafirlukast is a leukotriene (loo-koe-try-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are substances in the body that are associated with the inflammation and constriction of airway muscles and the accumulation of fluid in the lungs, all of which occur during an asthma attack. Tablets should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C (59-86 °F). Zafirlukast is an oral leukotriene receptor antagonist used for treating asthma. LAB TESTS, including liver function tests, may be performed to monitor your progress and to check for side effects. The symptoms will disappear once you stop. Some medical conditions may interact with Accolate. It is used to prevent asthmatic attacks. Terfenadine because its actions and side effects may be increased when taken with Accolate. If you have questions or need medical advice about side effects, contact your doctor or health care provider. Zafirlukast inhibits the activity of cytochrome isozymes CYP 3A4 and CYP 2C9. If you are also using a bronchodilator inhaler, be sure to always carry the bronchodilator inhaler with you to use during asthma attacks. While taking Accolate, you should not stop--or even cut down on--any other asthma medication you are using unless your doctor recommends it. If tests show the problem to be serious, you'll have to stop using the drug. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience nausea, unexplained fatigue or tiredness, itching, yellowing of the skin or eyes, flu-like symptoms, or upper left stomach pain. Proper storage of Accolate : Store Accolate at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Therefore, it should be taken either 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
