1. Protonix
Protonix blocks the production of stomach acid. It is prescribed to heal a condition called erosive esophagitis (a severe inflammation of the passage to the stomach) brought on by a persistent backflow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Revision Date: 10/3/06 2:37:55 PM. Protonix is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
2. Potassium
This belongs to the group of medicines known as electrolytes.Potassium is essential for keeping the body healthy. Too little or too much potassium can trigger irregular heart rhythms. Diuretic drugs can cause a mild loss of potassium, but usually have no symptoms, although elderly people may experience muscle weakness and confusion. If you experience any other worrying side effects, which you think may be due to this medicine, discuss them with your pharmacist. Before taking any of this medicine make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows: if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding if you suffer from kidney problems if you have ever suffered from a stomach ulcer, bowel problems or hiatus hernia if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine if you are taking any other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, herbal and complementary medicines.
3. Promethazine
Relieving allergy symptoms, including hives and nasal congestion. It is used to prevent and control pain and nausea during and after surgery. increased sensitivity to sunlight. Rarely, blood cell disorders can occur; low white cell counts can lead to severe infections. Your doctor may have you take 12.5 to 25 milligrams every 4 to 6 hours, if necessary.
4. Piracetam

5. Propulsid
Cisapride increases the rate at which your esophagus, stomach, and intestines move during digestion. It also increases the rate at which your stomach empties into your intestines and increases the strength of your lower esophageal sphincter (the muscle between your stomach and your esophagus). Do not take cisapride with any of the following drugs: antibiotics such as clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin (Ery-Tab, E.E.S., E-Mycin, others), troleandomycin (TAO), and sparfloxacin (Zagam); antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), maprotiline (Ludiomil), and nefazodone (Serzone); antifungal medications such as fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), and ketoconazole (Nizoral); phenothiazines such as prochlorperazine (Compazine, others) and promethazine (Phenergan, others); antihistamines such as astemizole (Hismanal); blood pressure medications such as bepridil (Vascor); heart medications such as procainamide (Procan SR, Procanbid, Pronestyl) and quinidine (Quinidex, Quinaglute); and HIV medications such as indinavir (Crixivan) and ritonavir (Norvir). Faster emptying of meals decrease the reflux of stomach acid and other contents into the esophagus. Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking cisapride.
6. Plavix
Clopidogrel keeps the platelets in your blood from coagulating (clotting) to prevent unwanted blood clots that can occur with certain heart or blood vessel conditions. Clopidogrel is used to prevent blood clots after a recent heart attack or stroke, and in people with certain disorders of the heart or blood vessels. Contact your doctor or seek emergency medical attention if you have bleeding that will not stop. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Plavix increases the clot-fighting effect of aspirin.

8. Perindopril
This belongs to the group of medicines known as ACE inhibitors.Perindopril is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Perindopril works by causing blood vessels to relax, lowering blood pressure and increasing the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. You may take Perindopril on an empty stomach or with food. Occasionally, dizziness, lightheadedness or blurred vision may occur, especially after the first dose of this medicine. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.
9. Persantine
DIPYRIDAMOLE (Persantine ® ) helps to prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of related problems such as stroke, in patients who have had heart valve replacements. Generic dipyridamole tablets are available. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Persantine with the following: Alzheimer's drugs such as Aricept, Cognex, Exelon Aspirin Blood thinners such as Coumadin Heart medications such as adenosine Indomethacin (Indocin) Ticlopidine (Ticlid) Valproic acid (Depakene). Persantine should be used with caution if you have any heart problems, including angina or recent heart attack. Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Persantine.
10. Prednisolone
Prednisolone is a synthetic adrenal corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are natural substances produced by the adrenal glands located adjacent to the kidneys. Corticosteroids have potent anti-inflammatory properties, and are used in a wide variety of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis , colitis, asthma , bronchitis, certain skin rashes, and allergic or inflammatory conditions of the nose and eyes. Patients on corticosteroids are more susceptible to infections, and can develop more serious infections than healthy individuals. Keep a list with you of all the medicines you use and show this list to any doctor or other healthcare provider who treats you.
11. Premarin
Premarin is an estrogen replacement drug. The tablets are used to reduce moderate to severe symptoms of menopause, including feelings of warmth in the face, neck, and chest, and the sudden intense episodes of heat and sweating known as "hot flashes." Cenestin tablets, containing a synthetic form of conjugated estrogens, may also be prescribed for these symptoms. The NHLBI study also found an increased risk of dementia for women taking estrogen or estrogen/progesterone combinations. In addition to the symptoms of menopause, Premarin tablets are prescribed for teenagers who fail to mature at the usual rate, and to relieve the symptoms of certain types of cancer, including some forms of breast and prostate cancer. The usual dosage is 0.3 to 0.625 milligrams daily, taken cyclically.
12. Phenergan
Phenergan is an antihistamine that relieves nasal stuffiness and inflammation and red, inflamed eyes caused by hay fever and other allergies. It is also used to treat itching, swelling, and redness from hives and other rashes; allergic reactions to blood transfusions; and, with other medications, anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction). Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Phenergan. It also is available as an injectable medication. Do not drink alcohol, or at least substantially reduce the amount you drink, while taking this medication.
13. Parlodel
BROMOCRIPTINE (Parlodel®) comes from a group of medicines known as ergot alkaloids. It blocks the release of a hormone called prolactin that affects the menstrual cycle and breast milk production. Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. Women taking this medicine for long periods of time should have regular gynaecological exams, usually every year (six-monthly for post-menopausal women). Symptoms may include confusion; delusions; general feeling of discomfort; hallucinations; increased sweating; pale skin; repetitive yawning; tiredness; vomiting.
14. Pheniramine
Pheniramine and pyrilamine are antihistamines. They block the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body. Pheniramine, pyrilamine, and phenyltoloxamine are antihistamines. Children are more susceptible than adults to the effects of medicines and may have unusual reactions. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist where you can get one.
15. Pioglitazone
Pioglitazone is an oral diabetes medicine that help control blood sugar levels. Pioglitazone is for people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. Gemfibrozil, insulin, or oral antidiabetic medicines (eg, glipizide) because the risk of low blood sugar may be increased. Actos (and the similar drug Avandia) can be used alone or in combination with insulin injections or other oral diabetes medications such as DiaBeta, Micronase, Glucotrol, or Glucophage. It is important to recognize your own symptoms of low blood sugar so that you can treat them quickly.
16. Phentermine
Adipex-P, an appetite suppressant, is prescribed for short-term use (a few weeks) as part of an overall weight reduction program that also includes dieting, exercise, and counseling. The drug is for use only by excessively overweight individuals who have a condition--such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol--that could lead to serious medical problems. Phentermine, especially when combined with fenfluramine, has been associated with high pressures in the pulmonary arteries (pulmonary hypertension) and defects in heart valves, both serious complications. You can become psychologically dependent on this drug. Others may find it more effective to take half a tablet twice daily.
17. Prevacid
LANSOPRAZOLE (Prevacid®) prevents the production of acid in the stomach. It reduces symptoms and prevents injury to the esophagus or stomach in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or ulcers. Prevacid IV is a proton pump inhibitor. You must also avoid Prevacid if you're taking cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, or terfenadine. You also may continue to take sucralfate (Carafate), but take your dose of Prevacid at least 30 minutes prior to the Carafate.
18. Piroxicam
Feldene, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis). It is prescribed both for sudden flare-ups and for long-term treatment. Before taking piroxicam, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have. This includes medicines you buy and herbal and homeopathic medicines. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
19. Pimozide
Pimozide is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain. If you experience this, try sucking sugar-free sweets, chewing sugar-free gum. Call your doctor immediately if you experience uncontrollable movements of the mouth, tongue, cheeks, jaw, arms, or legs; fever; muscle rigidity; sweating; irregular pulse; or fast or irregular heartbeats. Make sure you know how you react to this medicine before driving, operating machinery or doing any other jobs which could be dangerous if you were not fully alert or able to see properly.
20. Prograf
Preventing organ rejection in patients following liver, kidney, or heart transplant. It may be used along with other medicines. If you have questions or need medical advice about side effects, contact your doctor or health care provider. problems with your vision, speech, or coordination;. Grapefruit juice also may have a similar effect on tacrolimus and should be avoided.Other drugs can stimulate the break-down of tacrolimus, decreasing its blood concentration and possibly reducing its effectiveness.
21. Penicillin
Penicillin V potassium is used to treat infections, including dental infection, infections in the heart, middle ear infections, rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, skin infections and respiratory tract infections. Penicillin V works against only certain types of bacteria--it is ineffective against fungi, viruses, and parasites. There is a possibility that you are allergic to both types of medication; and if a reaction occurs, it could be extremely severe. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to penicillin. To clear up your infection completely, use Penicillin G Potassium for the full course of treatment.
22. Pravastatin
Pravachol is a cholesterol-lowering drug. Your doctor may prescribe it along with a cholesterol-lowering diet if your blood cholesterol level is dangerously high and you have not been able to lower it by diet alone. Doses greater than 20 milligrams have not been studied in this age-group. LAB TESTS, including liver function, kidney function, blood pressure, and blood cholesterol, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Carefully follow the cholesterol-lowering diet given to you by your health care provider.
23. Pantoprazole
Protonix blocks the production of stomach acid. It is prescribed to heal a condition called erosive esophagitis (a severe inflammation of the passage to the stomach) brought on by a persistent backflow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Protonix is therefore recommended during pregnancy only if clearly needed. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately. Although pantoprazole is approved for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), like other PPI's it also is used for treating ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, and the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
24. Propranolol
PROPRANOLOL (Inderal ® ) belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers reduce the workload on the heart and help it to beat more regularly. Inderal, a type of medication known as a beta blocker, is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain, usually caused by lack of oxygen to the heart due to clogged arteries), changes in heart rhythm, prevention of migraine headache, hereditary tremors, hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (a condition related to exertional angina), and tumors of the adrenal gland. Heart disease characterised by thickening of the internal heart muscle and a blockage inside the heart (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy). If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can.
25. Prozac
Prozac is prescribed for the treatment of depression--that is, a continuing depression that interferes with daily functioning. The symptoms of major depression often include changes in appetite, sleep habits, and mind/body coordination; decreased sex drive; increased fatigue; feelings of guilt or worthlessness; difficulty concentrating; slowed thinking; and suicidal thoughts. Be especially observant at the beginning of treatment or whenever there is a change in dose. Fluoxetine Capsules is found in breast milk. Underweight children may need to remain at the 10-milligram dose.
26. Phenytoin
Dilantin is an antiepileptic drug, prescribed to control grand mal seizures (a type of seizure in which the individual experiences a sudden loss of consciousness immediately followed by generalized convulsions) and temporal lobe seizures (a type of seizure caused by disease in the cortex of the temporal [side] lobe of the brain affecting smell, taste, sight, hearing, memory, and movement). Dilantin may also be used to prevent and treat seizures occurring during and after neurosurgery (surgery of the brain and spinal cord). If your seizures are controlled on 100-milligram Dilantin capsules 3 times daily, your doctor may allow you to take the entire 300 milligrams as a single dose once daily. Before taking phenytoin make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows: if you are pregnant, trying for a baby, or breast-feeding if you suffer from heart or liver problems if you suffer from porphyria (a blood disorder) if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine if you are taking any other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, herbal and complementary medicines. Children and young adults can develop overgrowth of the gums during long-term therapy which requires regular treatment by a dentist.
27. Periactin
Periactin is an antihistamine given to help relieve cold- and allergy-related symptoms such as hay fever, nasal inflammation, stuffy nose, red and inflamed eyes, hives, and swelling. Periactin may also be given after epinephrine to help treat anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction. Cyproheptadine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. An overdose of Periactin can be fatal. As there is no safety information available, the manufacturer does not recommend the use of this medicine when breastfeeding.
28. Pramipexole
Although it is not a cure, Mirapex eases the symptoms of Parkinson's disease--a progressive disorder marked by muscle rigidity, weakness, shaking, tremor, and eventually difficulty with walking and talking. Parkinson's disease results from a shortage of the chemical messenger dopamine in certain areas of the brain. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Mirapex can cause drowsiness and may trigger hallucinations, especially if you are over 65 or have an advanced case of Parkinson's. Side effects cannot be anticipated.
29. Pepcid
Pepcid is prescribed for the short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer (in the upper intestine) for 4 to 8 weeks and for active, benign gastric ulcer (in the stomach) for 6 to 8 weeks. It is prescribed for maintenance therapy, at reduced dosage, after a duodenal ulcer has healed. Swallow tablets or gelcaps with a glass of water. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Famotidine passes into breast milk.
30. Prilosec
OMEPRAZOLE (Prilosec®) prevents the production of acid in the stomach. It reduces symptoms and prevents injury to the esophagus, stomach, or intestines in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or ulcers. Omeprazole powder for oral suspension (Rapinex), which is rapidly absorbed, is available in 20 mg packets for dilution with water. It is combined with sodium bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid that would destroy the omeprazole. When taken with amoxicillin and Biaxin, side effects may also include: Diarrhea, headache, taste alteration. When taken with Biaxin, side effects may also include: Flu symptoms, nasal inflammation, sore throat, taste alteration, tongue discoloration.
31. Prandin
Prandin tablets contain the active ingredient repaglinide, which is a medicine used to help control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 or non-insulin dependent diabetes (NIDDM). People with diabetes have a deficiency or absence of a hormone produced by the pancreas called insulin. if you have a history of acidosis, kidney disease, or liver disease. However, if you're already taking both drugs, the doctor will monitor your blood sugar levels closely and adjust the dosages as needed. Side effects cannot be anticipated.
32. Prazosin
Prazosin is in a class of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. Prazosin causes the blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax and expand, which allows blood to pass more easily through them. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blurred vision; fainting; pounding heartbeat; puffiness in hands or feet; rapid heartbeat. It is effective used alone or with other high blood pressure medications such as diuretics or beta-blocking medications (drugs that ease heart contractions) such as Tenormin. If you are going to have surgery, tell your prescriber or health care professional that you are taking prazosin.
33. Precose
ACARBOSE (Precose ® ) lowers blood sugar in patients with diabetes. It slows the entry of certain sugars from food in the intestine into the body. If you are taking Precose along with other diabetes medications, be sure to have some source of glucose, such as Glutose tablets, available in case you experience any symptoms of mild or moderate low blood sugar. If this happens to you, your doctor may recommend that Precose be discontinued temporarily and injected insulin used instead. Contact your doctor immediately if the symptoms occur.
34. Paxil
Paxil relieves a variety of emotional problems. It can be prescribed for serious, continuing depression that interferes with your ability to function. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. For older adults, the weak, and those with severe kidney or liver disease, starting doses are reduced to 10 milligrams daily, and later doses are limited to no more than 40 milligrams a day. Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you.
35. Percocet
Percocet, a narcotic analgesic, is used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. It contains two drugs--acetaminophen and oxycodone. Side effects cannot be anticipated. Symptoms of Percocet overdose may include: Bluish skin, eyes or skin with yellow tone, cold and clammy skin, decreased or irregular breathing (ceasing in severe overdose), extreme sleepiness progressing to stupor or coma, heart attack, low blood pressure, muscle weakness, nausea, slow heartbeat, sweating, vague bodily discomfort, vomiting. The usual dose is 1 to 2 tablets of the lowest strength (2.5 milligrams oxycodone/325 milligrams acetaminophen) every 6 hours.
36. Paroxetine
Paxil relieves a variety of emotional problems. It can be prescribed for serious, continuing depression that interferes with your ability to function. Paroxetine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. if you have severe liver or kidney disease, an illness that alters your metabolism or blood circulation response, or have had gastrointestinal bleeding. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), diclofenac (Voltaren), indomethacin, piroxicam (Feldene), nabumetone (Relafen), etodolac (Lodine), and others.
37. Propecia
Propecia is a remedy for baldness in men with mild to moderate hair loss on the top of the head and the front of the mid-scalp area. It increases hair growth, improves hair regrowth, and slows down hair loss. The absence of a warning for a given drug or drug combination in no way should be construed to indicate that the drug or drug combination is safe, effective or appropriate for any given patient. If you're scheduled to have your PSA level checked, make sure the doctor knows you're taking Propecia. 38. Progesterone
Prometrium is prescribed for postmenopausal women who are taking estrogen (hormone replacement therapy); it prevents a buildup of the lining of the uterus and abnormal bleeding. Prometrium also may be prescribed to restore menstruation if your menstrual periods have stopped. Prometrium may cause some degree of fluid retention. If you have diabetes, your doctor will want to watch you closely while you are taking this drug. Check with your doctor immediately if you experience any of the warning signs listed in "Most important fact about this drug.".
39. Pregabalin
Treating fibromyalgia or nerve pain caused by certain conditions (eg, shingles, diabetic nerve problems). It is also used in combination with other medicines to treat certain types of seizures. Take Pregabalin by mouth with or without food. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
40. Periostat
DOXYCYCLINE (Doryx®, Doxy®, Periostat®, Vibramycin®) is a tetracycline-type antibiotic. Doxycycline kills certain bacteria that cause infection, or stops their growth. Do not take doxycycline just before going to bed. Finish the full course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional even if you think your condition is better. Make sure your diet provides vitamin B.
41. Plendil
FELODIPINE (Plendil®) is a calcium-channel blocker. It affects the amount of calcium found in your heart and muscle cells. If these medicines are taken together your doctor may need to adjust your tacrolimus dose. This feature means felodipine can be used to treat angina. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you.
42. Pletal
Cilostazol widens arteries that supply blood to the legs. Cilostazol also improves circulation by keeping platelets in the blood from sticking together and clotting. Use Pletal as directed by your doctor. You may get dizzy, especially when you sit or stand up quickly. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about this medication, especially if it is new to you.
43. Provera
Provera 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg tablets contain the active ingredient medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring female sex hormone, progesterone. It is used to treat various disorders of the menstrual cycle. Without these hormones, the monthly release of an egg from the ovary cannot occur. Before taking medroxyprogesterone, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine.
44. Prednisone
Prednisone is in a class of drugs called steroids. Prednisone reduces swelling and decreases the body's ability to fight infections. Aseptic necrosis is a condition in which there is death and degeneration of the hip bone. Do not receive a live vaccine, especially smallpox, while you are taking Prednisone. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you.
45. Pyridostigmine
Pyridostigmine affects chemicals in the body that are involved in the communciation between nerve impulses and muscle movement. Pyridostigmine is used to treat the symptoms of myasthenia gravis. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Store pyridostigmine at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Pyridostigmine tablets may also be used by the military before an anticipated threat of exposure to certain nerve gas agents.
46. Pravachol
PRAVASTATIN (Pravachol®) blocks the body's ability to make cholesterol. Pravastatin can help lower blood cholesterol for patients who are at risk of getting heart disease or a stroke. Generic pravastatin tablets are available. The recommended starting dose is 40 milligrams once a day. Do not take Pravachol if you are sensitive or have ever had an allergic reaction to it.
47. Pyrazinamide
This medication contains three different compounds which act together to kill bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin targets and inactivates a bacterial chemical called RNA-polymerase. Take once a day, as follows: If you weigh 97 pounds or less: 4 tablets If you weigh 98 to 120 pounds: 5 tablets If you weigh 121 pounds or more: 6 tablets. Revision Date: 2/13/04 3:58:22 PM. 48. Pentoxifylline
PENTOXIFYLLINE (Trental ® ) improves blood flow by making the red blood cells more flexible and by thinning the blood. Pentoxifylline helps to decrease the pain, discomfort, or cramps you can get from having poor circulation in your leg veins. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking pentoxifylline and seek medical attention: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with pentoxifylline.
